The Unbalancing Act

The Unbalancing Act

Instead of asking yourself how can I have it all- the question should be how can I prioritize the most effectively and let go of the idea that I have to have everything together in my life to be successful? When we start behaving like we need to have it all together, it’s harder to operate when things start to fall apart. There is no shame in accepting our unbalanced life. We may excel in one area, but it’s at the expense of another.

I can have the career I want, and the quality time with my children, but I neglect self care and I’m not eating right or exercising. My house is clean but I haven’t had a date with my husband. I look like an actual hot mess but I got a promotion. I have caught up with all of my friends but I haven’t been able to save. My point is that not every important area of your life will be thriving at the same time. It really is about learning to be unbalanced. Be in tune with the phases of your life and the time and energy you should be putting into all of your priorities. Many of our stressors come from the thoughts we have about what we lack. But the thing is- it is good to spend time in the areas that we have strengthened to keep them strong and visit the areas we know we want to improve on. Pick and choose the areas you want optimal success in and allow the rest to be areas for growth and improvement. Give yourself grace in the areas you struggle in and know that it is temporary. That doesn’t mean you’re failing or not successful, it actually means you have the awareness, intelligence, integrity and endurance to know what you need for your life to thrive at this moment in time.
